Glad to Meet You
Kelly Donnelly is a Bessemer City High School graduate. Upon finishing high school, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life. She attended Western Carolina University hoping to major in Psychology. She ended up leaving WCU still unsure of what she wanted to do. After attending Gaston College for a year, she decided to finally listen to Amanda and go to Cleveland Community College for Cosmetology. She worked everyday after school at J’s and learned a lot from Amanda. After graduating from hair school, she interned under Amanda for about 6 months before getting her full Cosmetology license in 2017. She likes to believe she’s getting the best of both worlds since psychology and hair seem to fo hand in hand. She loves her clients and is so blessed to work in such a Godly, wonderful environment.
Charley Sain graduated from Chase High School in 2001 and immediately began her Cosmetology journey when she enrolled the fall semester. She had always been interested in the beauty industry, so this seemed like a perfect fit. She graduated from Cleveland Community College with a diploma in cosmetology and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Award for the cosmetology program. She recently celebrated her 15th year anniversary as a licensed cosmetologist. She worked as a stylist in the industry while re-enrolling at Cleveland in the Cosmetology Instructors program to share her passion with others. She graduated with her Cosmetology instructors certificate and again received the Outstanding Graduate award and began teaching at CCC. Furthering her education, Charley also received her Associated Degree in General Education and continued her educational journey at East Carolina University in the fall of 2018. She is currently pursuing her bachelors degree in communication. “I must say that I owe my success to my family. I could not have done any of this without their love and support. My mom has always pushed me to be the best version of myself and she has taught me to never give up. My grandparents, Paul and Joyce Honeycutt, always encouraged me and loved me unconditionally. My husband of 10 years has always jumped on board any time I have a new idea or journey that I wish to embark on. My beautiful and smart daughter, Olivia, always keeps me on my toes. She has taught me patience and how to love unconditionally. Thank you to all my clients that have supported me and continue to allow me to be their stylist. I am excited to be part of J’s Hair Salon and I look forward to where this tourney takes me.”
When Amanda was in high school, her friends used to line up before school started so she could braid their hair. She didn’t really consider styling hair as a career until she cut her own hair while in her first semester of college. That’s when she started her path to hair school.
Amanda loved art classes, and that passion helped her to analyze color and shape at a different level. She applied her knowledge of color theory and sculpting basics and applied them to hair. She graduated from Cleveland County Community College in 2009 with a degree in Cosmetology. J’s Hair Salon’s first location was right in a room at her home. After six years, the salon had outgrown the space. Amanda had to buy a bigger house! After renovations, the stylists moved and opened J’s Hair Salon 2.0. Unfortunately, only two months after moving in, Amanda had to look for another place due to unforeseen reasons.
The new property was once a hair salon, so it was perfect. Amanda and her husband worked to make the 1930s building into a one-of-a-kind salon. When she moved in, it was her third salon location in six months!
It was a long journey to J’s Hair Salon’s ultimate location, but Amanda believes that God used the experiences to bring her to where she is today. She feels blessed beyond measure!
